Migrate an Operating System VM-Ware to Virtual Box or Virtual Box to VM-Ware

Have you ever wondered "how to migrate your Virtual Machine operating System from Virtual Box to VM-ware or VM-ware to Virtual Box and you don’t how you can do it?" This video is only for those who want to migrate their Virtual Machine.




Migrate from VM-Ware to Virtual Box

1. To migrate from VM-Ware to Virtual Box, open VM-Ware > Click on an Operating System > Edit Virtual Machine Settings.


2. Click on the Options Tab and copy the path address from the working directory.


3. Paste the Path address on File Explorer and you see the following:


4. Now Right-click on the VM-Ware icon and click on the open file location, and find OVF Tool.


5. Now open the Command Prompt from here by pressing SHIFT and RIGHT-CLICK on the mouse.

What is an OVF Tool? 

The VMware OVF Tool is a command-line utility that allows administrators to import and export Open Virtualization Format ( OVF) packages to and from VMware products. An OVF package is a group of files required for importing a virtual machine. Administrators can use the OVF tool to distribute and import both virtual machines ( VMs) and vApps.

6. Follow the command to migrate the .vmx file to .ovf:

C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Player\OVFTool> ovftool "Path of VM-Ware .vmx file" "Path of export .ovf"

As here you see, it was completed successfully.

7. Now open Virtual Box click on Import paste the path address of the .ovf file click Next and click Import.

8. You see it will successfully be migrated.


Migrate Virtual Box to VM-Ware

1. Click on Export on Virtual Box select the OS which you want to migrate and click next and click Export.

2. Now VM-Ware and click on Open a Virtual Machine.

You have successfully done this!
