XAMPP stands for "Cross-Platform, Apache, MariaDB(MySQL), PHP, and Perl." XAMPP is one of the simplest and most lightweight local servers that is used to test your website locally. It is an open-source platform. This includes X-OS because it works in all major operating systems like Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.
It includes features like Filezilla, mercury mail, supporting Perl, and much more. One of the main advantages is that you can perform as much testing and update the content in your website testing locally. Since it is open-source, you can easily download and install it in your system. You can perform several testing installing it once.
For Windows
To install XAMPP on your Windows computer, follow these steps:
1. Download the latest version of XAMPP from the Apache Friends website (https://www.apachefriends.org/download.html).
2. Double-click the downloaded installer file to start the installation process.
3. Click "Next" to continue.
4. Select the components you want to install. By default, XAMPP installs Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl. You can also choose to install additional tools such as PHPMyAdmin and Mercury Mail Server.
5. Click "Next" to continue.
Select the destination folder where you want to install XAMPP. You can use the default destination folder or choose a custom location.
6. Click "Next" to choose the language.
7. Click "Next" to continue.
8. Click "NEXT" to start the installation process.
Wait for the installation to complete. This may take a few minutes.
9. Once the installation is complete, click "Finish" to exit the setup wizard.
10. After installing XAMPP, you can start and stop the Apache and MySQL servers from the XAMPP Control Panel.
- To open the XAMPP Control Panel, go to the start menu and search for "XAMPP Control Panel" or navigate to the installation folder and double-click the "xampp-control" executable.
For Linux
If You want to install XAMPP on Linux Follow the Steps:
1. Download the latest version of XAMPP from the Apache Friends website (https://www.apachefriends.org/download.html).
2. Once downloaded open a new terminal and run the below command to start the installation process.
3. Similar to windows, follow the setup process:
4. Select the components you want to install.
4. Click "Forward" to continue to install.
5. Click "Forward" to continue to install.
6. Once the installation is complete, click "Finish" to exit the setup wizard.
7. After installing XAMPP, you can start and stop the Apache and MySQL servers from the XAMPP Control Panel.
- To open the XAMPP Control Panel, go to the start menu and search for "XAMPP Control Panel" or navigate to the installation folder and double-click the "xampp-control" executable.
8. From the XAMPP Control Panel, you can start and stop the Apache and MySQL servers, as well as configure other options.
Click on the "Manager Server" tab:
You can create a Launcher for better operations.
